Overview

Contract - 12 months

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Energy and Waste Management, this position will support the Division in the development, coordination and implementation of waste management strategies and programs aimed at reducing corporate and community waste generation and improving waste diversion.  Specifically this position will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with Town waste management program delivery
  • Assisting with community waste management program delivery
  • Assisting with waste policy research and development

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate (within one year), undergraduate or currently enrolled in a post-graduate program in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering or related field
  • Experience in a municipal environment is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the principles of solid waste management
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and policy direction for solid waste management in Ontario
  • Problem solving skills to effectively manage a number of projects and programs concurrently
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Team player with effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing, presentations and public speaking
  • Demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
  • Comfortable working outside (fieldwork)
  • Possess your own CSA certified steel toe safety boots for fieldwork
  • The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and creative team player
  • Required skills include a working knowledge of PC based software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Familiarity with social media applications is an asset
  • Candidates must be flexible with work schedules and be available to work evenings/weekends if required
  • A valid Ontario class ‘G’ driver’s license is required
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a current satisfactory driver’s abstract from the M.T.O.
  • A current Standard First Aid & CPR certification would be considered an asset, though not essential
