Length of Employment:  April 9 - September 14, 2018

                                       24 hours / week from April 9 - May 11 & September 4 - 14

                                       35 hours / week May 14 - September 3




Reporting to the Program Coordinator, School Holidays & Integration, you will provide assistance to the Program Coordinator with respect to the pre-planning and implementation of various summer camps.  Assistance may be in the form of, but is not limited to:

  • Development and implementation of training sessions for senior camp staff and camp counsellors;
  • Assisting with management of phone and email enquiries;
  • Providing direction, resources and advice to camp directors and supervisors;
  • Regularly visit summer camps and provide onsite evaluation and feedback;
  • Communicate regularly with summer camp program partners before and during camp session

The Recreation Assistant will also provide assistance in the planning of PA Day, Winter Break and March Break program


  • Your post-secondary education in Recreation or Sports Management or related discipline is complemented by 1 year of related experience
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • High Five Certification
  • You are a team player with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and ability to prioritize are a requirement
  • Proficient computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheet and database management is necessary
  • Demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
  • You must be prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and statutory holidays
  • You have excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential to your success in this role
  • The successful candidate must possess a valid Ontario Class "G2" Driver's License and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated)
  • You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
