Overview

Students are hired to meet established service levels and deliver a high level of customer service.  

 

Hours of Work: 

  • A variety of shifts are available within a 40 hour work week
  • The majority of these shifts will be a day shift from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, however, afternoon and evening shifts may be required
  • Half hour lunch (on-site lunch required) 

Responsibilities

Working as a team member responsibilities include:

  • Ground maintenance: including mowing, trimming activities
  • Horticultural maintenance: including planting, weeding and maintenance of annual, perennial and shrub beds along with other horticultural displays
  • Arboriculture operations including small and large tree care
  • Litter picking and planned garbage/recycling collection and disposal in parks
  • Sports field maintenance including lining, gilling, turf cutting, and various amenity repairs to sports fields
  • Assist staff in the inspection, cleaning and repair of multiple park amenities e.g. playgrounds, splash pads and picnic shelters
  • Providing support for special events including delivery, set up, takedown, clean-up
  • Operate various hand tools and powered equipment, including a pickup truck (minimum ¾ ton truck)
  • Demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Students applying for a summer student position must:

 

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student and returning to school full time for the fall semester in September 2018
  • Must be available to commence work on April 30, 2018
  • Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays from April 30 - August 31, 2018 
  • Must have a minimum of a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G2"
  • Upon employment you must provide a current satisfactory drivers abstract
  • Previous experience working in a municipal setting outdoors would be considered an asset
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
  • Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots
