  • Responsibilities

    As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for:

    • Monitoring recreational swimming activities, including: patrolling the pool deck and scanning the water, as well as monitoring patrons to ensure a safe swim environment
    • Wearing the Town’s assigned uniform, carrying an aid at all times, performing emergency rescues to the standard of your certifications, responding to patron inquiries, resolving problems, and performing associated public education duties
    • Setting up the pool deck prior to your shift
    • Cleaning the deck following your shift
    • You will attend all scheduled staff meetings and training programs
    • Record all hours worked
    • Keep all awards current, less than 2 years since certification date
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Successful candidates for the position of Lifeguard must become certified Swim Instructors within the first session of work.

    As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for the items mentioned in the Lifeguard position (above), in addition to:

    • Instructing assigned Lifesaving Society aquatic programs to standard
    • Responding to parent and participant questions promptly, courteously and thoroughly
    • Committing to teach the entire session of lessons, one absence is acceptable; however, you will not miss the first class, picture day (5th class) or the last class
    • Teaching in the water for the majority of each class time
    • Providing your supervisor with a detailed lesson plan for each class
    • Writing, proofing and correcting Progress Reports for all of your lesson participants
    • Successful candidates for the position of Swim Instructor must become certified as Lifeguards within the first session of work.

    Qualifications

    As a Lifeguard, the minimum qualifications are:

    • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C (SFA)
    • National Lifeguard (Pool)
    • Demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
    • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check

     As a Swim Instructor, the minimum qualifications are:

    • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C (SFA)
    • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors
    • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors
    • Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard (Pool)
    • Demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
    • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
