Overview

Contract: January 31, 2018 to December 31, 2018

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, By-law & Licensing Enforcement under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, By-law Enforcement you will be responsible for investigating and resolving all complaints registered with respect to by-laws and other legislation enforced by the division (Zoning By-laws, Property Standards By-law, Licensing By-laws, Weed Control Act of Ontario, Garbage and Debris By-law, etc.).  Your responsibilities will include carrying out thorough investigations which will include inspections, completing of notes, issuing of notices, orders and other correspondence, attending court and giving evidence, attending and giving evidence in Property Standards appeals, Licensing hearings and other duties as assigned which may include bike patrol of Town parks and facilities. 

 

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a College Diploma in Law Enforcement or related discipline is required

  • Your experience includes a minimum of 3 years in a similar position, giving evidence in court, together with a thorough knowledge of the systems and procedures of a By-law Enforcement Section

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills allow you to effectively deal with demanding customer situations

  •       You demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage. 
  • A Certified Property Standards Officer or eligible for certification 

  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and other relevant Acts, by-laws and legislation is preferred

  • Must be physically capable of performing duties under adverse conditions

  • You must be available to work the required schedule.

  • Possess a valid (unrestricted) Ontario class “G” Driver’s License and a satisfactory current driver's abstract

  • The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security clearance and annual checks thereafter may be required
