Reporting to the Director of Policy Planning, the Manager of Park and Natural Heritage Planning will lead a team of park planning and natural heritage professionals in implementing a vision for the Town’s park and open space system and ensuring natural heritage protection through the development approval process. The responsibilities of the Manager of Park and Natural Heritage Planning will include management of the following:

  • Park planning policy development including maintenance and development of the Town’s Parks Plan, and input to the Official Plan and Secondary Plans
  • Park planning implementation including the negotiation of the acquisition of parkland or cash-in-lieu through the development approval process
  • Long term and strategic park and outdoor recreation facility planning
  • Input to capital budget planning for park development, redevelopment and trail development
  • Review of all development applications regarding landscape design and natural heritage protection
  • Input to natural heritage policy development in various Town documents, and
  • Appearing at Ontario Municipal Board Hearings and other planning forums in support of the Town’s parkland and natural heritage planning objectives.


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A university degree in planning, environmental studies/science, landscape architecture or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience in progressively responsible positions related to park and natural heritage planning
  • Professional environmental, landscape architecture or planning accreditation is required

  • Arborist Certification, or equivalent, is an asset
  • You demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and courage
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience with public presentations
  • Proficient computer skills
  • In addition, you must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated)
  • You will be required to provide proof of valid vehicle insurance upon hire
