Contract (approx. 18 months)
Reporting to the Manager, Policy, the Planner II - Policy will be an integral part of the Policy Team responsible for the handling and delivery of studies and projects related to the development, monitoring and implementation of the Official Plan for the Town. You will review, monitor and report on emerging planning trends, issues, policies and legislative changes from senior levels of government, design and manage studies related to the formulation of Official Plan policy, and develop guidance material to assist with implementing policies of the Official Plan. In performing your duties you are expected to liaise with other departments, public agencies, the public, other stakeholders, and consultants; provide advice and recommendations to management and staff; attend meetings of Council and Committees of Council; attend Local Planning Appeal Tribunal hearings; and appear at planning forums in support of the Town’s planning objectives.
Your degree in Urban Planning or related discipline is complemented by a minimum of 4 years' experience in land use planning. You possess or are eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and/or Ontario Professional Planners Institute. You demonstrate the Town’s corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service. Your knowledge of planning policy research and analysis, formulation and implementation is coupled with comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, Provincial Plans, and other related legislation along with knowledge of their practical application. The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter with excellent report writing and presentation skills, along with a strong working knowledge of word processing, data management and presentation/publishing software. Mentoring and coaching skills, and some proficiency with design and GIS software would be an asset. This position requires a team player with excellent communication, organizational and project management skills as well as the capability to deal effectively with the public and meet deadlines. In addition, you must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) is required. You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire. Occasional attendance at Council or public meetings outside core business hours is required.
