  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and Accounting, the Supervisor, Payroll is responsible for overseeing weekly payroll for full time salaried, hourly employees and part time payroll. You will supervise the day to day operations of the payroll team, ensure compliance with the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and Collective Agreements; processing special payments and other remittances. You will also:

    • Liaise with the payroll vendor on system related issues, lead the system and configuration enhancements and provide first level system support and training
    • Manage and mentor a team of payroll specialists
    • Implement best practices to ensure the efficient management of payroll functions
    • Maintain confidential information and system wage rate tables
    • Responsible for year-end processes including Pension Adjustments, T4s, T2200, EHT and OMERS reconciliation
    • Prepare audit schedules for year end and documentation for auditors
    • Support payroll team with payroll processing responsibilities during peak periods and vacation coverage

    Qualifications

    • College diploma in Business Administration or Finance is required along with Certified Payroll Manager Certificate
    • 5 years of payroll experience in a unionized environment
    • Experience working with advanced payroll systems, ADP payroll solution an asset
    • Knowledge of financial systems and accounting concepts
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Thorough understanding of current public sector reporting requirements
    • Expertise in Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) payroll related regulations and legislative requirements
    • Expert knowledge of collective agreements, and defined pension plans
    • Experience as a supervisor with effective decision making capabilities and ability to lead and develop staff
    • You demonstrate Richmond Hill’s corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service

    • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy and discretion
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
